EconicKraft Packs Perfect for Zero-Waste Raglan Coffee
November 2, 2021
Econic®Kraft home compostable packaging is helping an eco-focused coffee roaster to cost-effectively showcase their brand and advance their zero-waste mission.Morning Glory Coffee has been using EconicKraft bags for the past three years to pack the organic, Fairtrade coffee they roast in the seaside town of Raglan. The Econic online store supplies them with plain EconicKraft bags and provides a digital printing service that allows them to be economically printed in runs as low as 100.
As well as providing flexible printing options, Morning Glory’s EconicKraft bags keep their coffee fresh and support their environmental commitment to eliminate landfill waste. EconicKraft packaging is made by Convex New Zealand from three certified home compostable films derived from sustainably produced wood pulp and corn sources.
Raglan’s contracted kerbside waste collectors, Xtreme Zero Waste, has extensively tested the Convex Econic packaging range and accepts it for composting in their onsite vertical composter. All Raglan residents can ensure their used Morning Glory Coffee bags are composted correctly by putting them in their kerbside food waste collection bins.
Morning Glory Coffee owner, Paul Peterson says, “My ethos is zero waste, so finding packaging that is home compostable was a top priority for me. Making conscience decisions about every area of our business – from where the beans come from to what packaging we use – is really important to us. These bags are great for the environment and the flexible printing offered has helped us lock in our brand.”
The digital printing service provided by the Econic store has given Paul the ability to easily adjust his Morning Glory branding and print small volumes of custom-designed bags for his regularly changing single origin blends. The bags are printed with non-toxic water-based inks that contain no heavy metals, and do not affect the compostability of the packaging.
Paul says, “The Econic store’s digital printing service is fantastic. Their customer service is second to none and the turnaround time is pretty quick. I now have eight different pack designs and I can easily do small-run limited editions and test the market with new designs without having to overcommit investment-wise or be stuck with a lot of merchandise that we can’t use.” Paul recently moved his roastery to Raglan’s Indi Café, where he is often found personally serving his brews. Morning Glory Coffee can also be purchased online and in selected health food stores. The Econic online store is managed by Ember Asset Management in collaboration with Convex New Zealand.
